(1882-1949)
1 ABC championship (1917-D)
Originally called the Long Island Individual Tournament, the local daily paper Newsday took over sponsorship of the event in 1952. The Newsday Eastern Open was a marathon competition, in some years stretching out to 72 games, and became known as “The All-Star of the East.” The newspaper dropped out after the 1980 event, and the tournament itself died a few years later.
