I was fortunate to be able to see Marion Ladewig in person in the summer of 1962. She and Don Carter were selected to roll the target scores for that year’s “Sun-Times Beat the Champs” tournament, and the house in use that year was 20th Century. The bowl was closed while they rolled the target scores but Frank Mailin (sp) was nice enough to let Bill Cwik and me in to watch as long as we agreed not to divulge the scores. Ladewig was a ball-delivering machine! She and Carter bowled on 21 & 22, but I don’t recall the scores. I do recall that Bowler’s Journal had sent a photographer and I’ll bet the photo is still in their archives. I saw it once and they’re both laughing because Bill and I were on each side of the photographer making silly faces at ’em! Oh what great memories!!
