The eleventh ABC Masters Tournament was held at Cobo Hall in Detroit, May 6-10, 1961. The field was 487 men. Trying to win the only major championship that had eluded him, losers bracket survivor Don Carter defeated tournament leader Dick Hoover, 840-768. That meant another match. Carter then defeated Hoover again for the title, 888-826.
