Jake: Pete Tountas is not in the Illinois Hall of Fame. He moved to Hammond Indiana in 1950 at age 12. Moved to Arizona in 1968.
Any idea where he bowled in the Chicago area from 1956-1967?

      Skip–
I know that a sweeper was sponsored under his name at Castaways in Calumet City, but I always saw him listed as Hammond. I’ll let you know if I find anything more.

  2. Marc Rettus Says:

Tountas spent a significant amount of time in Arizona. (There’s a rumor that it’s warmer there in the winter than northeast Illinois.)

He’s in a local hall of fame in the Grand Canyon State.

Unfortunately, they misspell his name on his page.

I know these local organizations are often undermanned and underfunded, but, my gosh, how simple and respectful is it to just spell the man’s name correctly?

    • J.R. Schmidt Says:

Unfortunately, misspelling a famous bowler’s name is nothing new. In The Bowling Chronicles, I have a publicity picture of the Stroh’s bowling team issued by the brewery, with Tony Lindemann’s name misspelled—and he was the team captain.
